Packaged Windows installations check for new KnowledgeWorks releases during startup.

Automatic update flow

1. KnowledgeWorks checks the approved release source.
2. A newer version downloads in the background.
3. Logs show download progress.
4. When the update is ready, KnowledgeWorks shows its release notes and asks whether to install it.
5. Install and Restart closes KnowledgeWorks, installs the update, and reopens the application.
6. Later keeps the current version installed. KnowledgeWorks offers the downloaded update again during a future launch.

The controlled Chrome for Testing browser is a separate process. It can remain open while KnowledgeWorks updates. The next browser launch uses the version bundled with the newly installed application.

Verify the installed version

Open the Logs window. Its title displays the running KnowledgeWorks version, and application startup writes the version to the log history.

Manual installation

Installing a newer approved installer over the existing application updates the same KnowledgeWorks installation. A normal update does not require uninstalling the previous version first.

Release availability

Only published releases are offered through automatic updates. Draft releases remain available to the project team for preparation and testing but are not detected by installed applications.

Automatic updates are currently enabled for packaged Windows installations. macOS builds must be updated manually.
